HINTERLAND

The strategic location of Karaikal Port allows access to the vast hinterland of Central Tamil Nadu. The hinterland is rich in industries and has a number of industrial clusters that will derive a direct distance advantage from the port.

The Primary hinterland consists of districts within 200 km radius of the Port. Karaikal Port offers a clear advantage to these areas both in terms of distance and accessibility. Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Trichy and Karur are districts that lie in the Primary hinterland.

The Secondary hinterland consist of districts that are 200 to 400 km from the Port, namely Coimbatore, Namakkal, Dindigul, Erode and Salem. Here too, the port offers shorter distances to customers along with better connectivity and accessibility. The professional management of the port will provide the added incentive for businesses to patronize the Karaikal port.

Hinterland

There is also the Tertiary hinterland, places beyond 400 km, from where the port is capable of attracting business based on specific needs of the customers. The efficiency of operations at Karaikal along with smooth and transparent single window processes for cargo and vessel clearances will clearly outweigh any distance advantages offered by competitive ports.
