INFRASTRUCTURE
Karaikal Port is envisaged to have a total of 9 berths capable of handling 47 MTPA by 2018. The port will be capable of handling all types of cargo such as dry bulk, break bulk, liquid bulk and containerized cargo in different independent zones
The port will be developed in 3 phases, which are detailed in the table below,

Phase 1 has already been completed ahead of schedule and the port has 2 operational berths at present. Phase 2A is currently under development. The various activities proposed under Phase 2A consists of the following:
a) 3 additional berths for various types of cargo.
i)1 for coal
ii)1 for OSV/PSV vessels
iii) 1 for liquid/general cargo
b) Increase the draft of the Port to (-) 16.5 Mts
c) Breakwater Extension, Channel and turning circle widening
d) Mechanisation of coal berths
e) Development of additional stockyards / storage facilities
f) Construction of buildings and other civil works
g) Construction of railway sidings & internal roads
h) Development of Utilities & Services
