LOCATION

Karaikal port is located on the Eastern coast of India in Karaikal District of Puducherry state around 320 Km along the coast south of Chennai Port and around 360 Km along the coast north of Tuticorin Port. The shoreline of the port falls between 10° 50’56’’ N and 10° 49’44’’ N. The port is being developed between the banks of Pravadayanar and Vettar Rivers.

The states of Tamilnadu and Puducherry are presently serviced by the existing Chennai & Ennore deep-water port facilities at the northern tip. Other than these the only other port on Tamil Nadu / Puducherry coastline is the major port at Tuticorin, which is nearly at the southern tip, making it more favorably placed to cater to the traffic generated from / bound for the southern region



The nearest major habitation is Nagore in Tamil Nadu, at a distance of 3 km from the Port site. The port site is connected by NH-45A (connecting Puducherry – Nagapattinam). The present nearest railhead is at Nagore (Tamil Nadu).
